FUCHSFELGE

Many think that the FUCHS rim is used exclusively for Porsche. A classic without the so-called Fuchs rim - is hardly imaginable. However, the Fuchs rim is much more than “just” a Porsche rim: for the OTTO FUCHS group, the Fuchsfelge stands for forged perfection from the OTTO FUCHS factory. The products that the OTTO FUCHS group develops and produces are innovative semi-finished products and components made of aluminium, magnesium, copper, titanium and nickel alloys in a closed value-added chain – from the production of the raw material to forging and the final finished materials. The in-house laboratory not only ensures continuous quality control of the materials, but also optimizes and develops new alloys for new customer product ideas. About 3.000 employees work at the headquarters in Meinerzhagen.

History

How it all started: Porsche was looking for a light yet robust wheel for the 911. It had to be not a cast wheel, but a one-piece forged wheel – a novelty.

The sketch for such a wheel was made on February 13, 1965 at OTTO FUCHS. Using wooden models, the subtleties of the design were discussed at a conference at Porsche on May 4, 1965 together with the team of Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, where Heinrich Klie was the author of the finally realized form.

The first wheelset in 4½ J x 15 inches was then mounted on the Porsche 911 Targa and presented at the IAA Cars in Frankfurt to examine the experts' reaction to the wheels. The response to the Fuchs Wheels at the IAA was overwhelming and on December 21, 1965, Porsche ordered 5.000 wheels for the coming year.
Over twenty years - from 1966 to 1989 - the classic Fuchs rim turned as the factory wheel for the 911 and grew together into a "cult" unit.

Retro Fuchs for Porsche

The styling of what is probably the most famous forged wheel, the classic Fuchs rim for the first Porsche 911, has been carefully enlarged to the dimensions of the "newer" Porsche series (starting with the Porsche Type 964 and 993) to 17 , 18 and 19 inches.

In addition to the so-called Retro fuchsfelge® has also been the fuchsfelge® Evolution available. The Evolution Fuchs rims are designed for the Porsche 911 F and G models in 15 and 16 inches. What's special: A further development, taking into account current technology and know-how. This Evolution Fuchsfelge® has thinner walls and is considerably lighter with the same quality and stability.

New addition: (available from autumn 2021)

Special surface finish

Anodizing only works with forged wheels. The wheel is passed through several cleaning, pickling and rinsing baths before electricity is finally passed through the wheel into a sulfuric acid bath. The top layer of the aluminum is oxidized. This results in a very hard and chemically stable layer. This anodized layer is not only corrosion resistant, but also ensures good adhesion of the matte black paint. The areas on the wheel that should not be black are pre-covered with a stencil. A clear coat seal is no longer necessary.
